Miss America Looks to a New Generation.
Miss Michigan Kirsten Haglund was crowned Miss America 2008 Saturday in a live event from Las Vegas. Haglund isn’t the first in her family to reach for the top tiara; her grandmother, Iora Hunt, competed as Miss Michigan in 1944. “This a dream come true, not just for me but for my family as well,” Haglund said. “I’m not just standing up here alone.”
